Velammal Matric., Ponneri celebrated Pongal, the harvest festival, in a grand manner on 11.01.2017. The school ground wore a traditional outlook with colourful pots and festoons of mango and coconut leaves. Pongal, the traditional food offering of the festival, was started by lighting of fire by Principal Mrs. G.R. Shanthi to mark the ushering in of good fortune and cheer. Teachers from KG to Std. XII prepared Pongal which set the right tone to familiarize the children with the rich culture and traditions of the state that is almost lost today. The celebration started with pooja followed by colourful presentation of cultural programme by students and teachers. The skit, dance and songs by primary and middle school children kept the audience spirits high. The Pattimandram on the topic, “Thamizharkalin Parampariya Vilayattukkal – Kalthin Kattayamae / Kala Virayamae” was the high light of the day.
The students throaty Pongal-o-pongal when the milk boiled and the “Kambi” Kolam competition conducted in the school ground furthered the festive mood.
